Course Descriptions
Combo Pre,1, 2, 3 : These classes are age appropriate, introductory classes. They combine ballet, tap, jazz and creative movement to encourage young dancers to explore and learn all forms and disciplines of dance. We encourage individuality and creativity along with developing age appropriate gross motor skills. Our main goal in these classes is to have fun while learning about dance!
Pre– Ballet and Pre-Jazz/Tap: These classes are designed to bridge the gap between our combo classes and the Level 1 classes, which are a full hour of each discipline. While fun is an important goal, dancers will need to focus on each discipline for a longer period of time. We begin to focus more on how to execute skills the right way.
Level 1 Classes: Level 1 is our foundational level. Dancers must master all the expected skills before moving on to Level 2. Each discipline of ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop will last one hour. We strongly recommend that dancers at this age take ballet and one other style of dance. (this is not a requirement!) In these levels dancers must begin to execute movements correctly and show a higher level of strength. Most dancers will repeat this level 2 or 3 times. Dancers are generally age 7—10.
Level 2 Classes: At this level dancers are still working on foundations. Placement of the body becomes more refined and dancers are expected to exhibit more control over their bodies. Ballet 2 will meet twice a week, with the other styles meeting once a week. Dancers are generally 9—12. Most dancers spend 2—3 years in this level
Levels 3, 4 and 5 are by placement only. Generally, dancers have danced from 4—10 years. Most dancers are 11 and older. These levels are determined by ability and not age. Dancers in each level must demonstrate knowledge and mastery of the skills in previous classes. Each dancer will progress differently! Please contact the office if you are not sure where your dancer fits within our levels. Most dancers spend 3 or more years in each level.
Ballet is recommended for all dancers. It is not required
